Jordan vs Pistons and Knicks

12/04/2012 15:40

The Jordan rules; that’s the defense the Pistons came up with to stop Jordan in the late 80’s and early 90’s. There were a few simple rules. One, force him to his left. He was better going right. Two, don’t let him go baseline. Force him to the middle where there is help defense. Lastly, double Jordan when he is posting up. Jordan was sensational at the fade away jump shot. Those were the basics of the Jordan rules. The Knicks saw that the Pistons had some success at stopping Jordan. So, they put in the same rules in the mid 90’s. Today I will compare how the two teams fared against Jordan. These two video’s will also do a lot of explaining:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLv2F33snCE and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5K-qGWkiKvQ. As you can see the Pistons fared better against Jordan. Not only did the Pistons show better statistics but they won. The Knicks had average statistics and they never won when Jordan was playing. In my opinion they is one sentence that explains why this happened: Pistons had more and better defenders, while the Knicks had a few good defenders. That is the bottom line for me. The Pistons had Rodman, Vinnie Johnson, Joe Dumars, Isiah Thomas, and Bill Laimbeer. The Knicks had Patrick Ewing, Charles Oakley, and John Starks if you want to consider him. Overall, the Pistons did better.
