Fast Break Article 3/1/13
03/01/2013 15:15I’m not one of those people who believe dunking is useless. I am also not one of those people who all they care about is dunking. I am one of those people who believe dunking is important, but can be made too popular at times.
A lot of kids now a day’s stay inside. Some still play basketball on the courts or their front yard. In my neighborhood, whenever a kid is playing basketball, the rim is at 7.5 feet in height. They run around trying to dunk. Those kids believe dunking is basketball. However, I don’t blame them. The trailer for NBA 2K13 is almost ALL dunking. Do me a favor and watch how many dunks compared to jump shots there are. Here’s the video:

I’m not going to go on a rant about dunking being just another two points, because it’s not. Dunking has its important traits. Here is a list of what I came up with:
- At home, it gets the crowd in the game.
- On the road, it shuts the crowd up.
- It gets your teammates pumped.
- It embarrasses and freezes the opponents.
- It shows your dominance.
- It gets you pumped and confident.
Next time Blake Griffin dunks, watch how the crowd reacts. Here he is
dunking on Kendrick Perkins at home:

Watch how the crowd jumps out of their seat and immediately gets involved in the game. Watch how confident Blake looks. Watch how demoralized Perkins is. Watch how Blake’s teammates become pumped.
Now here is a video of Blake dunking on Spencer Hawes on the road:

Watch how the crowd starts to buzz. Watch how confident Blake looks. Watch Blake’s teammates stare in amazement. Watch how demoralized Hawes is.
As you can see, dunking can be too important in today’s game, but is still important.
